“If Your Reading This, I’m either Missing Or Dead” – Clark County Teen Disappears Under Mysterious Circumstances

AnjiDeanWashington teen Anji Dean’s family hasn’t seen her since June 23rd, but it seems the 17-year-old had gotten into trouble before disappearing [via CBS]. She told school counselors and teachers that she had found her way into an impossible situation. On the day of her disappearance, she texted her boyfriend and said someone was threatening to kill him and her entire family because of something she’d done. That morning, a neighbor reported seeing her getting out of a blue Volvo that had four other people in it, but the neighbor could only identify the driver — a black man with a goatee. Dean left behind all of her personal belongings except for the clothes she was wearing at the time, which her mom described as “black running tights, a white razor back tank top and white Nike shoes.”

The disappearance of Tara Calico

tara-calicoTara Calico, then 19, left her Belen, New Mexico home on the afternoon of September 20, 1988 to ride her bicycle on Highway 47. She, nor her bike, were  ever seen again despite numerous searches and media coverage including being featured on Unsolved Mysteries, America’s Most Wanted, Vanished, Current Affair, etc.

Tara’s unsolved disappearance came back into the limelight when, on June 15, 1989, a woman found a picture in a parking lot outside a convenience store in Port St. Joe, Florida. A white van had previously been parked in the spot and the photo featured a teenage girl and an unidentified young boy, both were bound and gagged in the back of a van. It was speculated that the girl in the photo might be Tara Calico and that the boy was possibly Michael Henley, a 9-year old who vanished on a camping trip in NM the previous year. However, Michael’s remains were soon found in the same area he originally went missing.

Two other photographs featuring a gagged girl resembling Tara surfaced over the next few months, though they have never been released to the public.

There are many theories revolving around this case and it seems like the majority believe the young woman was kidnapped however, years after Tara went missing a Valencia County sheriff publicly stated his belief that she was killed the day she disappeared when two local residents accidentally hit her with their truck and disposed of her body, but he had insufficient evidence to make an arrest. But if this theory is true, then what’s the story behind the two kids in the photograph?

Tara Calico was born February 28, 1969 and would be 44 years old today.

She had caught a butterfly earlier that morning about three-tenths of a mile up the road from her home, and hid it under a rock. She left her home on her green bicycle to retrieve the butterfly but never made it. Her bicycle was found on Rhodes Road near the intersection of Anthony Road but Janice was never found.

Mother of missing woman bitter over killer’s release

Yarnell

Photo taken in 2008 of Michael Yarnell a.k.a Honeymoon Suspect

News Tribune article published July 8, 2013 – A Morgan County man is scheduled to be released today from the Tipton Correctional Center after serving four years of a seven-year sentence for the death of his wife in 2003.

And the mother of the victim is not happy.

Michael Yarnell, 43, accepted a plea agreement in June 2009 on one count of first-degree involuntary manslaughter, if all other charges were dismissed against him.

Yarnell was charged with multiple felonies in 2008 after he allegedly confessed to killing his wife, Michelle “Angie” Yarnell, and leading her family and authorities to believe she ran away with another man.

“The reason he’s getting out now is that he was so successful in hiding her body, which is the evidence,” said Angie’s mother, Marianne Asher-Chapman. “To this day, we have never have found her remains. She is still a missing person.”

Investigators testified that Yarnell admitted shoving his wife, causing her to fall off the couple’s deck at their Ivy Bend home in late September 2003.

After he sat with her for a while, they said Yarnell “freaked out” and loaded Angie’s body in a car with the intent of driving her to Versailles, but eventually took the body to a boat ramp at the Lake of the Ozarks, loaded her into a canoe and eventually “lost” her in the water.

Yarnell then fled the area and wasn’t found by authorities until August 2008.

“I will never understand how our criminal justice system allowed a liar like Michael Yarnell to lead them to such a path, fabricating a story which was nothing more than a self-serving lie to save his own skin from a life sentence or even a death sentence,” Asher-Chapman said.

Asher-Chapman’s experience led her to co-found Missouri Missing, a group dedicated to helping families of missing persons try to find their loved ones by connecting them with various resources, many associated with law enforcement, and keeping missing person cases out in the public.

Despite being able to help many since found the group in 2007, Asher-Chapman still has a hard time dealing with how her daughter’s case has been handled.

“The justice system in the case of my beloved daughter has done little more than to denigrate and insult her and her family and friends, and in no way, has brought any degree of true justice to we who has suffered at the hands of this dangerous predator,” she said.

“It gives him full freedom to continue to harm others.”

Next week will mark the 39th anniversary since little Jeffrey Bratcher disappeared. Jeffrey, then 7, was last seen during the evening of June 15, 1974 playing with five other children, including his siblings, inside of Ocean City State Park in Ocean City, Washington.

The young boy was told that dinner would be ready at 7PM and to return to the picnic table that his family were stationed at. When it was nearing 7PM Jeffrey decided to take a separate path back to the picnic table which was approximately 150 feet from the shore. He separated from the other children and within moments he vanished.

The whole park had been searched by police, family and volunteers but no sign of Jeffrey Bratcher was ever found. Search dogs are believed to have picked up his scent which ended at the park’s entrance/exit. Authorities believe he was either kidnapped or somehow managed to fall in the Ocean and got swept out to sea.

At the time of his disappearance Jeffrey and his siblings were visiting his father and step mother in Ocean Shores. His mother, who lived in Mesquite, Texas, had full custody.

‘I just feel incredibly lucky to have Josh,’ she wrote in 2002. Before long, however, she found herself torn.

madisonscottFull Name: Madison Scott
Nickname: Maddy
Missing From: British Columbia, CA

Current Age: 21

Madison Scott also known as “Maddy” by those closest to her, has been missing for two years when she was last seen on May 28, 2011 at approximately 3AM at a partying in Hogsback lake, which is a well-known recreational and camping area that also has a reputation as a party spot for young people. It’s approximately 25 kilometers from Vanderhoof in Northern British Columbia, Canada.

According to family and witnesses she had arrived at Hogsback on Friday and vanished a day later. Maddy was very close to her family so when she failed to contact them on Sunday they went ahead and filed a missing persons report with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), who immediately started searching. They found her tent and abandoned vehicle but no sign of Maddy.

Maddy’s case is widespread in British Columbia and her devastated family and loved ones have reached out to the public numerous times. They have created posters, bracelets and continue to host events in her name. They say the disappearance is very uncharacteristic and are desperate for answers.

Maddy was 20-years-old in 2011 and would be 22-years-old today.

Todd Scott, a young man who use to attend Nechako Valley Secondary School with Maddy, described her as outgoing, outdoorsy and “really, really nice.

An individual left an update on the Facebook page earlier this month stating that authorities for the RCMP who have been investigating this case have found no evidence to suggest that whomever is responsible for Maddy’s disappearance was staying at the campground the night of May 28, 2011.

Since Maddy’s disappearance almost two years ago, a reward of over $100,000 has been raised and is being offered to anyone with information leading to the recovery of Maddy Scott or the person(s) responsible for her disappearance.
