Bennington Triangle – Unexplained Disappearances

Between the years 1920 and 1950, Bennington in Southern Vermont, close to the Massachusetts and New York borders, was the site of several mysterious and completely unexplained disappearances:

Old snap-shot of Bennington, VT

* On December 1, 1949, Mr. Tetford vanished from a crowded bus. Tetford was on his way home to Bennington from a trip to St. Albans, Vermont. Tetford, an ex-soldier who lived in the Soldier’s Home in Bennington, was sitting on the bus with 14 other passengers. They all testified to seeing him there, sleeping in his seat. When the bus reached its destination, however, Tetford was gone, although his belongings were still on the luggage rack and a bus timetable lay open on his empty seat. Tetford has never returned or been found.

* On December 1, 1946, an 18-year-old student named Paula Welden vanished while taking a walk. Welden was walking along the Long Trail into Glastenbury Mountain. She was seen by a middle-aged couple that was strolling about 100 yards behind her. They lost sight of her when she followed the trail around a rocky outcropping, but when they rounded the outcropping themselves, she was nowhere to be seen. Welden has not been seen nor heard from since.

* In mid-October, 1950, 8-year old Paul Jepson disappeared from a farm. Paul’s mother, who earned a living as an animal caretaker, left her small son happily playing near a pig sty while she tended to the animals. A short time later, she returned to find him missing. An extensive search of the area proved fruitless. * For more information, see Vanishing Point.

Philadelphia Couple Vanished Eight Years Ago Today After The Two Were Seen Leaving Abilene’s Bar

It’s been eight years since Danielle Imbo and Richard Petrone mysteriously vanished and police remain dumbfounded.

Danielle, then 34, had known Richard, then 35, since the two were teenagers. Though they had gone to different high schools in New Jersey (she attended Cherry Hill High School East while he was at Bishop Eustace Prep in nearby Pennsauken) Danielle was good friends with Richard’s sister, Christine, and had a ”crush” on Richard but he had been so consumed with playing ice hockey at the time he hadn’t picked up on her interest. It wasn’t until much later that they rediscovered one another and became a couple, but by this time, Danielle had already been married and divorced to a man name “Joe Imbo”, who had threatened Richard a few times over the phone. According to police Joe isn’t considered a suspect.

It was a chilly night February 19, 2005 when Richard Petrone and Danielle Imbo vanished along with the pick-up truck they were driving. The disappearance was, and still is, a true mystery. No phone calls to friends or family members, no ransom notes, no wreckage, no remains, nothing. After years of searching for the missing couple, the police say they have “zero physical evidence” despite extensive searches.

Richard’s 2001 four-door Dodge Dakota pickup has also never been located. The missing couple’s credit cards and ATM cards have not been used since they walked out of Abilene’s that night. There has been no activity on either of their cellphones. Surveillance cameras that routinely record transactions at ATM machines showed no signs of either of them. Video cameras at highway toll plazas and river crossings have no record of Richard’s truck passing through that night. It’s as if they vanished into thin air.

“Not a lipstick, not a bag, not a shoe, not a car, not an eyewitness, not a tip, not anything,” Danielle’s brother, John Ottobre said.

They were last seen at Abilene’s bar and restaurant on South Street in Philadelphia, and Richard’s best friend Rick Bellezzi stated that the couple “left the club happy at about 11:45pm.”

Many who knew the two of them stated they were NOT the type to leave without an explanation. They were very happy with there lives and all they had left behind and just wouldn’t walk away from friends and family like that.

Authorities in Philadelphia and New Jersey as well as the FBI have continued to search for the couple eight years on but so far, have come up empty.

Danielle Imbo is an attractive brunette with hazel eyes and an infectious smile. Her friends agree that she’s “very smart” with a great ”personality and sense of humor.” One friend described her as a “very blunt” person, “a tell-it-like-it-is type of girl.” A few years before her disappearance, she sang in a rock band called the ”School Boys”, following in the footsteps of her late father, Johnny Ottobre, who in the 1950s had been the lead singer in a well-known doo-wop group called the ”Four Dates”. She has a tattoo on her lower back, a symbol of her astrological sign (Leo) inside a horseshoe of flowers.

She would be 42 years old today.

rpetrone

Richard Petrone has two tattoos. One is of a clown which is located on his right arm, the other is his daughter’s name (Angela) tattooed on his left arm. He is described as being ”good natured and jovial” He has a stocky, solid build. He has brown hair, blue eyes and usually wears a goatee or a sculpted full beard. Richard is also described as layed back type of guy who liked occasionally drinking beer with friends and relaxing after a long week, a good personality, someone who loved his family and friends too much to ever leave on his own accord.

He would be 43 years old today.

Richard and Danielle’s family miss them and want answers. Some fear the worst while others try to remain hopeful that one day they will get there loved ones back.

According to Sergeant Tim Cooney of the Philadelphia Police, “No one is a suspect and everyone is a subject of this investigation.”

A reward of $100,000 is being offered for any information that will lead to the whereabouts of Danielle Imbo and Richard Petrone.

The Mystery Remains as of 2013

Two Similar Unsolved Cases of Unidentified Females Found In NY

These two cases are very similar. Both females were discovered in NY, both are Hispanic/Black woman, each with a similar tattoo on their breast, both murdered and unidentified, both with missing body parts when they were discovered. They were found ten years apart.

Victim One:

605UFNY

A small tattoo of two red cherries on a green stem above her right breast

  • Unidentified Hispanic or Black Female
  • The victim was discovered on March 3, 2007 in Mamaroneck, Westchester County, New York
  • Estimated Date of Death: Last week of February, 2007
  • State of Remains: Torso and two legs only
  • Estimated age: 35-50 years old
  • Approximate Height and Weight: 5’7″ – 6’1″; 180 – 200 lbs.
  • Other: The torso had a stab wound and belonged to a large woman.
  • Clothing: She was wearing gray Champion sweat pants, a tan or cream-colored long-sleeved shirt by Voice and a red camisole bearing Spanish-language labels.

A female torso inside a suitcase washed ashore at Harbor Island Park in Nassau County, New York on March 3, 2007. About three weeks later, the two legs were found a day apart — on March 21 off Cold Spring Harbor and March 22 off Cove Neck, along Nassau County’s Gold Coast. Each leg had pink toenail polish on some toes. DNA confirmed the legs and torso belonged to the same woman.

Since the torso floated onto the beach as storm-fed floods hit the region, authorities have said it could have come from almost anywhere.

The dark blue or black suitcase is sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores. Police also found small scraps of paper tucked away in the crevices of the suitcase. When pieced together, it looks like a calendar with the Spanish word “cinco” and the phrase “begin to live.”

Victim Two:

unidentified_tattoo

A tattoo of a peach in the shape of a heart with a bite taken out of it and two drips falling from its core was located on her left breast.

  • Unidentified Black / Biracial Female
  • Located on June 28, 1997 in Lakeview, Nassau County, New York.
  • Estimated Date of Death: No more than 3 days
  • Cause of death was homicide
  • Estimated age: 16 – 30 years old
  • Approximate Height and Weight: Unknown
  • Scars/Marks: She had an abdominal scar, possibly from a caesarean section.

On June 28, 1997, a dismembered body was discovered in a wooded area of Hempstead Lake State Park, Lakeview, New York. Both arms, head, and legs below the knee were severed and have not been located. The torso was found on the west side of Lake Drive, about 200 yards north of Peninsula Boulevard.

She was found in a Rubbermaid container along with a red towel and a floral pillowcase.

With no leads to the woman’s identity, the police published a picture of the approximately two-inch wide tattoo in a national tattoo magazine, in the hopes of finding the artist who did the work. They received a call from a man in Connecticut who claimed he remembered giving the tattoo to a woman. The artist said he remembered the customer as a young black woman, about 18 or 19 years old, who was accompanied by two women, an aunt and a cousin. During the session, he also claimed she told him she was from either the Bronx or Long Island and that she was in Connecticut because having trouble with her boyfriend at the time. It is possible the woman had other tattoos on her arms or lower legs that the killer did not want found.
