SHAINA ASHLEY KIRKPATRICKAge progressed photo showing what Shaina may have looked liked at 7 years old. She will be turning 14 in a few weeks.

Exactly one week ago today marked the 12th anniversary since the disappearance of Shaina Kirkpatrick, then 1, and her newborn baby sister, Shausha.

Kimyala Henson, the mother of both girls, had planned to take them on vacation to Sacramento, California and they were being joined by Henson’s friend, Christina Mayer and a man whom Mayer introduced as her husband, Curtis. They left their Portland home on April 4, 2001 enroute to Sacramento and although they are believed to have made it to California it is unclear if they made it to Sacramento.

It has been confirmed that on April 5, 2001, less than 24 hours after leaving their Portland home Henson and her daughters had travelled to Redding, California and were seen at Shasta’s Lodge with both Mayer and Oehring. This was the last confirmed sighting of the two girls and the last time their mother would be seen alive.

Henson’s murdered remains were located on April 29, 2001 in a Nevada desert but Shaina and Shausha’s whereabouts are still unknown.

Steven Kirkpatrick, the boyfriend of Henson and the father of both Shaina and Shausha had told authorities that both he and Henson had never met Curtis prior to April 2001 and police would soon learn that ‘Curtis’ was in fact Frank Oehring, a fugitive from Missouri who had a warrant out for his arrest at the time due to attempting to murder his ex-wife. According to his former wife Henson had led a group of Satanists and Mayer was a member.

Just over two weeks after both girls disappeared, on April 20, 2001, both Mayer and Oehring were discovered in a vehicle at a rest stop in Collier County, FL. Mayer was dead upon discovery after being shot to death and Oehring was near death suffering from a gun shot wound to the head. He died just days later at the hospital.

It was determined that Oehring was responsible in what police have called a ‘murder/suicide’. He also left behind letters detailing their plan to steal Henson’s birth certificate. Mayer had assumed the murdered woman’s identity in Las Vegas, NV shortly after they met up with her in Oregon. Nothing in the letter indicated they were responsible for the murder of Henson nor the disappearance of her two daughters however, common sense and the circumstantial evidence points to them and police believe they had something to do with it.

They two girls are considered at risk.

The first one is a photo taken at the hospital after her January 2001 birth, and the second photo shows Shausha as a 2 month old, her age when she went missing. Artists were unable to create an age progressed photo due to her age and lack of details.

The Mystery of The McStay Family Disappearance

mcstay-family

Last month marked the 3rd anniversary since a family of four mysteriously vanished from their Southern California home.

Joseph McStay; his wife, Summer; and their two children, Gianni and Joseph Mateo, have not been heard from since the night of Thursday, February 4, 2010. A neighbor’s security camera was triggered at 7:47PM when the McStays white 1996 Isuzu Trooper left the family’s home in a quiet cul-de-sac on Avocado Vista in Fallbrook, CA. The neighborhood is described as the “friendly village,” and is about 18 miles from the Pacific Coast and some 50 miles north of San Diego.

Loved ones contacted authorities less than 24 hours after failing to reach the family. When police entered their house they found eggs on the kitchen counter and bowls of popcorn in the living room. Their two dogs were also in the house but not a single trace of the McStays.

On February 8, 2010, four days after the family mysteriously disappeared police believed they found a reliable lead. The family’s locked and abandoned Isuzu Trooper was located in San Ysidro, just two blocks from the US / Mexico border. Surveillance video taken that night shows a family fitting the description of the McStays walking into Mexico although it hasn’t been confirmed if it was indeed them. Many don’t think it. I mean why would a successful couple with a nice house in a safe neighborhood leave suddenly without saying so much as a goodbye to their family and loved ones. It makes little sense.

Still shot from the surveillance video showing four individuals who resemble the McStay family crossing the US Mexico Border. It has never been confirmed if it was indeed the missing family and nobody has come forward claiming to have been the family shown in the video.

Cell tower records reveal that the two mobile phones belonging to Joseph and Summer McStay last pinged a pair of T-Mobile towers along Highway 76 in Bonsall, at a point seven miles west of the family’s home in Fallbrook.

After the 7:47 p.m. departure that Thursday night, Joseph McStay’s mobile phone – a T-Mobile G1 Android – received no further incoming calls. It made only one outbound call.

At 8:28 p.m., Joseph McStay’s phone dialed his business partner Chase Merritt. Records indicate a call duration of one minute. No further calls or text were ever made or received.

It is now being reported that the call to Merritt was made from within a one-and-a-half mile radius of a cell tower that sits beside the old Bonsall bridge that spans the wide and densely overgrown bed of the San Luis Rey River.

The mobile phone belonging to Summer McStay registered its final call at 4:42 that same Thursday afternoon. Disconcertingly, though, her phone continued to receive text messages after the disappearance – eight, in total. Three texts sent by family friend McGyver McCargar arrived on Friday. The last four texts, including two messages from Dan Kavanaugh, an associate of Joseph McStay, arrived on Saturday. The final text message registered at 10:59 a.m., presumably just before the mobile phone’s battery was exhausted.

Some of these text messages to Summer McStay pinged the same T-Mobile tower as Joseph McStay’s phone call on the night of the disappearance. The other text messages pinged a companion tower on the opposite side of the river.

“Summer McStay’s phone was not buried, and wasn’t submerged. It was not broken. It was switched on, and for two days it was within reach of the T-Mobile tower by the old Bonsall bridge.”

Joseph’s mother, Susan Blake, writes to her son Joseph all the time. “I send him e-mails,” she says, “keeping him updated on what’s going on.”

She hasn’t received any answers. All she can do is hope that she’ll see him and her grandchildren again one day.

Those closest to the missing family remain hopeful that they are still alive even though it’s been three years and not a single confirmed spotting.

“If you look at the clothing that they were wearing at the time, it coincides with when the vehicle was found; it leads you to believe that was them crossing the border,” Investigator Dennis Brugos said. “I can’t say definitively it’s them, but it’s a high probability.”

But Joseph’s mother isn’t convinced.
“My son’s meds were in that car,” she tells CNN. “My son has asthma and doesn’t go anywhere without the meds on him. And to have babies go without car seats. This is the stuff that doesn’t add up.”

Mike McStay says he is unsure if it was his brother and family in the video. “The best is that the children appear to be size appropriate, but I could never get an ID off the adult. Even if it were them crossing, we still don’t know to what intent. We don’t know if it was under duress or willingly.”

“My brother is out there. I want what everyone wants, a phone call, a letter, something. I don’t want to know why he left. We just have to know that they are OK.” says Mike.

Mike McStay is familiar with the theories speculating on what might have happened including one presented in the new book, “No Goodbyes: The Mysterious Disappearance of the McStay Family.”

Author Rick Baker says his own investigation including reviewing hundreds of personal e-mails, shows that Summer and Joseph were having problems and that their relationship was, in his words, about to “explode.” Baker speculates, among other things, that at least one of the family members may have met with foul play.

“I personally believe that Summer probably killed Joseph and we should be looking for Summer and the two kids, rather than a family of four that decided to just flee on their own,” Baker told 10 News.

He said personal emails from Summer indicated that she was a “very unhappy … conflicted woman” before the family vanished. Still, he admits that he doesn’t have all the answers in the bizarre case.

“If I should discover that you have ignored this message and keep digging around I will turn on you,” wrote Summer to Joseph in 2007. “I’m so sick of your nosy (expletive). You’d better stop or we’re over”

“I must say… this is one of the nastiest e-mails I (have) ever gotten…So foul, I can’t believe it came from you,” Joseph’s email reply said.

Mike McStay bristles when asked to comment on Baker’s suggestion. “I don’t know how he sleeps at night,” McStay says of the author. “I suspect he’s looking for money. He’s a good manipulator and knows how to twist things. He’s just trying to sell books.”
Blake, the mother, says there were many inaccuracies in the book. “It was very hard to read all this, very heartbreaking, the accusations.”

Baker says he is donating all of the book’s profits to a search and rescue organization in Houston. He is also offering $25,000 cash to anyone who can lead him to any of the four missing McStay family members.

Police dug into the family’s background. Summer McStay had stayed home to raise her children but planned to return to work prior to the family’s disappearance, her brother-in-law said.

Mike McStay calls sister-in-law Summer McStay an “incredible mom.”

Joseph McStay owned Earth Inspired Products, a company that built custom water features for high-end commercial businesses around the world, says Mike McStay, his younger brother.

Younger sibling Joseph McStay would have turned 6 on January 31, 2013 and Gianni McStay would be 7 now.

Thousands of tips and leads were followed, as well as searches and National media attention but police are nowhere closer to solving the mystery.

“This is definitely an unusual case,” says Lt. Glenn Giannantonio of the San Diego Sheriff’s Department’s homicide division “At this point we are no closer to finding them than on the day they disappeared. I know that sounds horrible, but we just don’t know what happened to them.”

Giannantonio cautions there is no evidence to indicate foul play. “Everything leads us to believe the disappearance is voluntary. It’s still categorized as a missing persons case,” he says.

“We have to rely on facts and evidence. We don’t want to publicize unsubstantiated theories. Everyone has theories, however we can’t come out and say this is what actually happened unless we have something to back that up. Other people can, but that’s not the business we are in.”

Mike and his mother get reported sightings of the McStays on a regular basis. They come from all over the country. Mike, who says he chases them all down, recently received a tip from Belize, where his brother owned property.

“Every time one comes your heart pumps and you hope to God that this is it,” Blake says, “and when it’s not you fall apart. It’s heartbreaking and very hard.”

Blake says the search for her family is the biggest fight of her life. “I refuse to give up. I hope to God, but at the same time it’s been three years.”

A website was set up to help find the family, McStayFamily.Org, which features a blog that is still updated.

Family Still Holding Out Hope For Son Who Was Kidnapped 27 Years Ago As A Baby

CHRISTOPHER-ENOCH-ABEYTANCMC600552e1Photo of baby Christopher and an age-progressed photo showing what he may look like today at 27.

Case Type: Endangered Missing
Full Name: Christopher Enoch Abeyta
Birthdate: November 28, 1985
Missing Date: July 15, 1986
Race: White Sex: Male
Age Now: 27
Height: 2’2″ Weight: 17 pounds
Missing City: Colorado Springs
Missing State: Colorado
Country: USA
Hair Color: Blonde Eyes: Blue
Other: Christopher is of Swedish, German and Spanish decent. His hair may have darkened to brown or dirty-blond over the years. His father and siblings are all of average or above average height so he may be as well, now that he’s older.

Christopher Abeyta was 7 months old when he was kidnapped as he slept on the night of July 15, 1986. His parents had put him to bed in his crib which was located in the parents room, and he was taken sometime after midnight and hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

The garage door opener was missing and the basement window was open. His parents called police and reported him missing at approximately 6:30AM. When police arrived they couldn’t find any signs of forced entry however, the front door had been left unlocked threw out the night giving anyone the opportunity to sneak in. Like most cases of missing children, family was considered the first suspects. Christopher’s mother and father had separated initially but were working things out and his father had slept at the home on the night of the disappearance. This was the first time since the separation. Investigators haven’t cleared either parent with the case but have no evidence to indicate they are involved.

Quail Lake was drained in the days after Christopher’s disappearance. Nothing was found. Neighbors hadn’t seen anything out of the ordinary and local searchers turned up nothing. In the last 27 years not one trace of the baby boy was found. No clothing, no (confirmed) sightings, nothing.

christopher-abeytaThe parents of Christopher refuse to accept that he is dead and believe someone (who maybe couldn’t bare their own children), abducted their child and raised him as their own. They have created a website, Find Christopher, which is updated regularly and features a “Message to Christopher from his family” on the front page;

We have searched for you for 26 years.
Our lives have forever been changed by this cowardly act done to an innocent baby, and there is no such thing as closure. We have lived with the hope that you were raised with a family whom has loved and cared for you. Your family continues to investigate your disappearance and will not stop until we have answers and justice has been served. You have loving parents and 6 older brothers and sisters who play an active part in your investigation.
We love you!

This pictured of Christopher is posted by the family on their website (mentioned above). Under the photo is a caption which reads ‘The photo is Christopher posing with a Baseball Trophy that his Dad had won for him at a baseball tournament taken a month before he was kidnapped’.

The family is also offering a reward of $100,000 for information leading to the recovery of Christopher Abeyta — They’ve listed some possible locations of where he may be including Texas and New Mexico. It is unclear why they believe he might be in these locations.

January 28, 2013 was the seventh anniversary since Angelo, Santino, Selena and Walter went missing.

All four victims were wards of the state at the time due to both parents being unfit with extensive criminal records. Prior to the parents, Ruby Leo and Anthony Marks losing custody of the kids, they would pass them off to one another when the other was serving prison for whatever reason.

In 2007, less than one year after the kidnapping, Ruby Leo was located, arrested and sentenced however, the children’s whereabouts are still unknown and so is the whereabouts of Marks who may have taken them to Kansas City, Missouri, or possibly with other relatives out-of-state.

Marks is also wanted on several other outstanding warrants.

Reward Offered For Missing Arizona Girls

January 30, 2013 – TUSCON, AZ —

Investigators believe one man is the common link in two missing-girl cases.

11-month-old Estella Lovemore went missing this past Sunday, and 2-year-old Caroline Oddo has been missing since November, 2012.

Luis Palacio is officially considered a suspect in one of the cases and a person of interest in the other. Palacio is the biological father of Oddo. He’s also the boyfriend of Lovemore’s mother, Danielle Lovemore.

abductors_victims

The Tucson Police Department issued a felony arrest warrant in Palacio’s name accusing him of custodial interference in Oddo’s case. Meanwhile, Marana police consider Palacio a person of interest in the Lovemore disappearance.

Estella went missing Sunday when her mother reportedly took her from a birthday party at Gymnastics World in Marana. Richter Lewis, Estella’s father, said Child Protective Services told him that Estella had been abducted.

They said my daughter had been abducted by Danielle, and that’s pretty much all I heard about it from them,” Lewis said.

“I didn’t even have a Facebook account until last night, and I’m doing this just to find Ella. My main concern is trying to find my daughter and get her back home.”

Oddo’s mother, Anna Oddo, described Palacio as a violent man who hurt her and embarrassed her on several occasions.

She said she never witnessed Palacio hurting their daughter, but feels he is capable of doing so based on what he’s done to her.

Police say Estella Lovemore has already suffered a broken elbow and multiple bumps and bruises. Police did not determine how she was injured, but CPS removed her from her home.

Police say her mother’s reported abduction of her Sunday only placed her in harm’s way.

Marana Police Sgt. Jose Alvarez says, “Right now we don’t know where she’s at and we’re concerned for her safety. So until we find out further and know that she’s safe, we’re going to call her a missing and endangered person to give her heightened awareness.”

It is not entirely clear that Palacio and Lovemore are together, but police saw the couple together in November when Estella suffered her broken elbow, and Marana police say Lovemore is five months pregnant with Palacio’s child.

A reward up to $1,000 will go to the person whose tip leads to an arrest in each unsolved case.

The Kidnapping & Murder of Adam John Walsh

adam_walsh

Photo of Adam Walsh which was taken the same year of his abduction and murder

Adam Walsh was a 6-year-old boy from Hollywood, FL. On the afternoon of July 27, 1981 Adam joined his mother, Reve Walsh, on a trip to Hollywood Mall, which is right across the street from Hollywood Police Department.  The main reason for the trip was so Reve could stop by Sears Department Store to purchase a few items, including lamps.

Adam was your typical, friendly boy so when he saw a couple of children playing video games in the arcade section of the store he asked his mother if he could stay behind and watch. Figuring she would be less than 75 ft away in the lamp section, she said yes and left her son who was happy and amused with the video games, behind.

That was the last time she would see her son alive.

“I said, ‘I’m going right over here to the lamp department,’ and he said, ‘Okay, Mommy, I know where that is,'” Reve told Nightline in a 2011 interview.

Police records in Adam’s case released in 1996 show that a 17-year-old ‘security guard’ asked four boys to leave the department store. Adam is believed to have been one of them. It is unknown why they were asked to leave.

Reve noticed fairly quickly (about 5-10 minutes) that the lamp she wanted wasn’t in stock and headed back to the arcade. Adam was nowhere in sight. She wasn’t initially concerned, figuring Adam ran off with some kids she went out to search for him, asking local shoppers if they’ve seen him. After searching for over an hour, Reve began to panick and called police.

By the end of that week this case was National news, thousands of fliers with the smiling, brown-haired boy were published and posted all over cities and towns and eventually made their way out-of-state. But by then, it was too late.

Two weeks (16 days) after Adam went missing his severed head was found in a drainage canal more than 120 miles away from home. The rest of his body has never been located.

From the beginning, the Walshes were disappointed with the Hollywood Police Department.

First, the Walshes say the cops didn’t take the missing persons case seriously enough. Then they say the police botched the murder investigation.

“It was one nighmare after another,” John Walsh said.

The prime suspect was Ottis Toole, an admitted serial killer who was in prison for many other crimes.

“You keep killing and killing and it gets easier and easier and it don’t really bother you,” Toole once told Texas law enforcement.

Toole made 24 documented confessions to killing Adam Walsh, including a 1984 videotaped interview with Texas Rangers. During the interview, he said, “I kind of feel bad about that Adam Walsh kid.”

“That is,” he said, “the youngest child I ever killed.”

Toole even had the gulls to write to the Walsh family, demanding $5,000 in exchange for telling them where the rest of their child’s remains were.

“I read that letter and went into the bathroom and threw up,” John Walsh would later tell Nightline in an interview. “I said, ‘This son of a bitch. We have to figure out a way for him to tell us what happened.”

In the decades that followed, Adam’s case remained open. Toole continued to recant his confessions about being the killer several times and for years he was never charged. Many people believed he was admitting guilt simply for the fame and to be remembered. They believed this because he never proved his guilt and wouldn’t tell police where the rest of Adam’s body was.

For years the case went unsolved and the Walsh family felt like they were the ones doing all the investigating. It became frustrating but they were not going to let their child’s name go down in vain.

Walsh_Family

The Walsh Family – John Walsh in the middle, Reve Walsh (right) and daughter on the left

At the time there were no missing faces on milk cartons, no Amber Alert system in place to alert the public if a child goes missing, no National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, nothing. To a family who’s missing a child each minute feels like eternity and the Walsh’s were determined to change this.

They didn’t want other families to go through the tragedy they went threw and for the families who have gone threw unsolved tragedies. They were determined to catch as many predators and criminals as they possibly could.

Prior to his son’s murder, John Walsh was a partner in a hotel management company in Hollywood, Florida. After his son’s kidnapping and murder, he became a strong human and victims rights advocate, criminal investigator and the creator and host of America’s Most Wanted which has helped save thousands of missing people and solve crimes. Walsh is also a part owner of Museum of Crime & Punishment in Washington D.C.

John Walsh (pictured) has been a strong human and victims right advocate for many years and continues to speak out and help other families of crimes

Reve Walsh rarely speaks out about her child’s murder. In 2011, she sat down with Nightline ABC to discuss a new book “Bringing Adam Home,” which tells the story of her son’s case and the tragedy they went threw.

“When all this was going on, I just thought to myself, I can’t wait till it’s 20 years or 25 years,” Reve said. “I don’t care about getting old, I just want this experience of my life to be that far away from me because I thought it would be different. It’s really not.” Reve told Nightline.

The Walsh family had dedicated their lives to helping other families find their missing relatives, children, etc. Over the years they’ve helped find thousands of missing people and criminals. They were not going to let their son’s horrific murder go in vain. But still, the frustrations grew each year Adam’s case continued to go unsolved.

“I cannot go to my grave not doing everything I can possibly do,” she said. “We are going to get a cold case detective, we are going to start from the beginning, and have this man work this case. I don’t care if you go to work just to pay the bill of this private investigator.’ And John said, ‘I know the guy.'”

That guy was Joe Mathews, a retired police detective who had briefly been involved in the Walsh case early on and was critical of how it was handled.

After combing through the case file, Mathews made a major discovery: a roll of film from the crime scene of Ottis Toole’s car — it was film that the original detectives never bothered to have developed. Pictures show bloody footprints on the driver’s side of Toole’s car. On the rear floorboard of the car — where Toole admitted to tossing Adam’s severed head — pictures show the bloody outline of a face.

“I have a blood transfer from Adam’s face onto the carpet — you can actually see his image. It’s as clear as the shroud of Turin, Veronica’s veil. It’s clear,” Mathews said.

He showed the picture to the Walshes.

“To me, it was the one thing that a mother knows, is that this is their child, that this picture is their child,” Reve Walsh said. “This is the piece of evidence that ties everything together for me and I can go to my grave knowing that not only that I did everything I could but that I found my answers in that photo.”

In December 2008, based on the evidence presented by Mathews — who is also one of the co-authors of “Bringing Adam Home,” — the new Hollywood Police Department Chief Chad Wagner officially closed the case, definitively naming Ottis Toole, who had since died in prison, as the man who killed Adam. Wagner apologized to the Walshes for mistakes that he said were made early in the investigation.

It’s been over 32 years since the kidnapping and murder of Adam John Walsh and his family never gave up on him and didn’t let his case go down in vain. America’s Most Wanted is still helping law enforcement solve thousands of crimes and they plan to continue for as long as they possibly can.

New Boston police join missing person network

The New Boston Police Department announced Tuesday they have become a participating member of the A Child is Missing Alert Program.

The program is similar to what the state has in the Amber Alerts, but the A Child is Missing Alert Program places actual calls to local citizens — more than 1,000 calls within 60 seconds. The alert message will include the age of the missing person, a description of the person, their clothing description, and the last known time and location of where the person was seen. The alert covers under persons under the age of 21 and disabled and elderly persons, often with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

“Once an officer takes a missing person report that falls under the guidelines of his program, we will place a immediate call to the A Child is Missing Alert Program operators who then will input the information into their automatic data system and a recorded message will be sent out to all local telephone numbers in the New Boston and Scioto County areas, informing our local citizens of the alert,” said New Boston Police Capt. Steve Goins.

The standard Alert Program utilizes computer mapping and enhanced satellite imagery to select an appropriate calling area, and will call between the hours of 7 a.m. and 10:30 p.m., unless significant extenuating circumstances dictate otherwise. Police departments also have access to 24-hour alert calls. Unlisted phone numbers and cell phone numbers can also be entered into the database at http://www.achildismissing.org to receive alert calls.

According to the program, a child is reported missing in the United States every 40 seconds.

Goins said getting missing persons information out to the general public in a quick and timely manner is a major factor in helping find the missing child or elderly person before they are hurt. The more people in our area that can assist the police in going out in their neighborhood and helping to look for the person, the more likely the outcome will be successful in finding the person.

“This program will most definitely benefit the department in how we search and look for missing persons. The program is also a free service to all law enforcement agencies,” Goins said.

Steven Kraft, Jr., also known as “Steve or Stevie” by friends and family, was an 11-year-old who attended Hull Elementary School in Benton Township, MI. He vanished days after he completed a 5-day suspension for defended himself in a fight with another student. He was described as a good student and this suspension was his first due to a “bully”.

On the evening of February 15, 2001 Steve left his Benton Township home to walk his two dogs. When he didn’t return home for dinner his parents decided to wait a little bit longer before going out to search for him. It didn’t take too long before one of the two dogs came home by himself. He appeared excited and jumpy and led the parents to a nearby pond but when dive-teams searched the pond they didn’t find anything of significance. The other dog was found shortly after at a Blue Creek which is a local creek not to far from the pond.

This case is very similar to the disappearance of Erica Baker, a 9-year-old girl who vanished shortly after leaving her aunt’s Kettering, OH home to walk her dog. The dog eventually came home and seemed distressed. The cases are less than two years apart, both received a good amount of National attention and both remain unsolved.

Many reports came in about possible places to search including a pond behind Harbor Haven Ministries in May 2001 and another search in an area of woods near the Southwestern Michigan Regional Airport in November 2002. but no evidence was located and Steven Kraft’s whereabouts remain unknown.

According to reports, Steve lived on a dead-end street in Benton Harbor (Township) with little traffic, and was familiar with the area. He has relatives living near his home and was well-known to the neighbors. His parents have since moved to Hagar Township, Michigan. He has family in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Lexington, Kentucky.

Place of Birth: Milwaukee, Wisconsin Eyes: Green
Height: 5’2″ (at the time of his disappearance)
Weight: 100 pounds (at the time of his disappearance) Sex: Male

Steven was last seen wearing a blue-green Charlotte Hornets basketball team jacket, a tan and white t-shirt, tan pants, and black boots.
