The Unsolved Murder of Sylena Jo Dalton And The Kidnapping Of Her 2 Month Old Infant Still Unsolved

AllysonDalton

Photo of Baby Allyson taken in 1998 as a newborn

Allyson Dalton has been missing since the morning of July 27, 1998 when she was just an infant. Her mother, 20-year-old Sylena Jo Dalton, was murdered at their second-floor apartment on 175 South Charles Street, Apartment B-8, Strasburg, Virginia and Allyson was kidnapped at the scene.

Both Sylena and Allyson were last seen alive by a family member at 7:45 AM but when a co-worker arrived at the apartment later that afternoon she came upon Sylena’s body on the couch. She had been stabbed to death and 2 month old Allyson, along with several baby bottles, were nowhere to be found.

Neighbors stated they heard no screams or disturbances.

Authorities believe both the murder and abduction took place between 9:15am – 10:30 am.

In 2001 Sylena’s mother filed a wrongful death suit against her daughter’s former boyfriend, Daniel E. Pompell, seeking $1.5 million in damages. She claims that Pompell killed Sylena and kidnapped Allyson. It is unknown if she was successful in the suit. At the time of the murder Sylena had listed Pompell as the baby’s “probable father” on paperwork filed with the state Division of Child Support Enforcement, according to a warrant filed in Fauquier County. The warrant also stated that he was at Dalton’s apartment “at the approximate time of her death” and “angry about the possibility of additional financial obligations on him if paternity of the child was proven”.

Police did search the Warrenton home of Pompell, then 29, but found no sign of Allyson and no evidence that would point to him.

The murder weapon has never been located and baby Allyson, who would be a teenager today, remains missing.

Levon Wameling

Recent photo of Baby Levon who has last seen alive over six weeks ago

Levon Wameling has been missing for over six weeks. He was last seen at his home in Utica, New York on the night of May 29, 2013.

According to reports, Utica Police were notified when an attorney contacted them informing them that Levon’s father, Jevon Wameling, 27, left the child on his Jay Street front porch at 11:30PM on May 29th while he went around to unlock the back door, and when he got into the house and opened the front door, Levon was gone.

It was only after 2 weeks, on June 11, 2013 when the child’s mother and Levon’s stepfather confronted Jevon that he claimed the baby was missing and possibly kidnapped.

Utica police and New York State Police K-9 units spent hours searching the streets and wooded areas around 748 Jay St. for any clues about what happened to Levon but so far have come up empty. They have asked others to NOT form search parties while the investigation is underway.

Levon was last seen wearing only a diaper according to his father. He is now 11-months old and his whereabouts remain unknown.

Where is Elaina Steinfurth? Toledo Baby Missing Since June 2nd

eliana-endangered-missing18-month-old Elaina Steinfurth (pictured), known widely as “Baby Elaina” was reported missing on June 2, 2013 when her father went to pick her up along with her 4-year-old sibling at the mother’s Toledo, Ohio home located on the 700th block of Federal Street. When he arrived the child’s mother made excuses before claiming Elaina had been kidnapped.

Police, dive teams, volunteers and search dogs have been trying to locate the little girl for several weeks now to no avail.

June 2nd – HLN Timeline:

Terry Steinfurth Jr. described what happened when he went to pick his two daughters up from his estranged wife on June 2 and he discovered that Elaina was missing.

Angela Steinfurth, Elaina’s mother, had stayed at her ex-boyfriend Steven King’s house the previous night. When Terry went to the Federal Street home of King’s family to get the girls, he says he found Angela sitting on the porch smoking a cigarette.

“I asked her to go get the baby,” he said. “She told me she had just laid her down for a nap and she wasn’t waking her up.”

According to Terry, Angela let their 4-year-old go with him but she refused to go inside and get Elaina. Then he claims King started “yelling and screaming like he wanted to fight, ripped his shirt off.”

At that point, Terry says he left and came back with his father, Terry Steinfurth Sr., who got out of the car and confronted King.

“The boyfriend told me he would fight with me, like he wants to do with my son, and I just told him I wasn’t there to fight with him,” Steinfurth Sr. told Grace Monday. “I wanted to see my granddaughter.”

Steinfurth Sr. claims Angela told him she would not give Elaina up because she thought Terry would never bring her back. She finally agreed to go inside and get Elaina, and King went into the house with her, he says.

Steinfurth Sr. said Angela came back outside about a half hour later and claimed someone had taken Elaina.

According to a police report obtained by HLN Monday, King is believed to have left through the back door during this time without anyone knowing. Angela allegedly said he left to go look for Elaina.

The police report revealed additional information about the timeline of events on June 2. According to the report, Angela said she last saw Elaina when she put her down for a nap around 1 p.m.

She said she and her ex-boyfriend then went to the Family Dollar and, when they returned, the door to the bedroom where Elaina had been sleeping was still closed so she did not go in to check on her.

Around 2 p.m., Terry Steinfurth Jr. arrived. After arguing with Angela, he returned around 2:30 with his father and Angela agreed to get Elaina. 25 minutes later, Angela said Elaina was gone. Steven King had left at that point.

Police arrived around 3 p.m. and began interviewing witnesses and searching the neighborhood. King returned around 4:30 p.m., according to the report.

The police report described the King house as “unfit for living,” noting sewage overflowing from a toilet and dog feces on the floor.

King and his parents have not returned calls from HLN seeking a comment on the case since Thursday, but his mother and father both told HLN last week that he is cooperating fully with investigators and does not know where Elaina is.

Angela Steinfurth was arrested last Wednesday on a child endangerment charge for allegedly not seeking medical attention for Elaina after she suffered an injury. She remains in custody on $250,000 bond.

Angela’s stepfather, Richard Schiewe, suggested Monday that there is more to the story.

“My daughter screwed up big time, okay?” Schiewe told Nancy Grace. “I’m not making excuses. I can’t forgive and I can’t forget it. The story is she knows what happened to the baby. She got afraid because people threatened, if you say anything, you’re next.”

Schiewe claimed Angela told him she does not know where Elaina is, but she knows what happened to her and who took her from the house.

According to Schiewe, Angela told him she had made a big mistake, but he would not say what the mistake was, stating that the FBI told him not to talk about it. However, he did say his “gut feeling” is that Elaina is dead.

Elaina is described as a White female, brown hair, blue eyes, 2’1″ tall, weighing 21 pounds.

Next week will mark the 39th anniversary since little Jeffrey Bratcher disappeared. Jeffrey, then 7, was last seen during the evening of June 15, 1974 playing with five other children, including his siblings, inside of Ocean City State Park in Ocean City, Washington.

The young boy was told that dinner would be ready at 7PM and to return to the picnic table that his family were stationed at. When it was nearing 7PM Jeffrey decided to take a separate path back to the picnic table which was approximately 150 feet from the shore. He separated from the other children and within moments he vanished.

The whole park had been searched by police, family and volunteers but no sign of Jeffrey Bratcher was ever found. Search dogs are believed to have picked up his scent which ended at the park’s entrance/exit. Authorities believe he was either kidnapped or somehow managed to fall in the Ocean and got swept out to sea.

At the time of his disappearance Jeffrey and his siblings were visiting his father and step mother in Ocean Shores. His mother, who lived in Mesquite, Texas, had full custody.

Two Years Since 18-Month-Old Joshua Davis Jr Vanished From His New Braunfels Home

Other: He may be in need of medical attention

joshua-davisJoshua Davis Jr. was 18 months old when he went missing in New Braunfels, Comal County, Texas. According to his parents he was last seen on the evening of February 4, 2011. The Davis house was full of people when he vanished.

The missing child’s mother, Sabrina Benitez, spoke on HLN back in 2011 and said she was watching “Toy Story” with Joshua shortly before 8PM Friday evening when he left the room, heading toward where six other adults and another child were. About 10 minutes later, when the boy hadn’t come back to watch the video or pick up a toy, Benitez asked the others about his whereabouts and they all responded that they didn’t know where he went. Everyone in the home checked inside and outside. Within minutes, family members called police who started investigating immediately and sent an alert to 2,500 nearby residents believing the missing toddler walked outside and may be lost.

Benitez believes her son was kidnapped — insisting it would have been all but impossible for him to go outside. Even if he did, Benitez said, he would have been smart enough to try to get back in or would have been spotted by now.

Although New Braunfels Police initially assumed Joshua left the home without anyone noticing or taking him. It’s been over two years and theories have changed with most believing he had been the victim of abduction.

One individual was seen going in and out of the Davis home around the time Joshua disappeared, but that person is not considered a suspect. Police don’t think anyone at the house took him and no Amber Alert had been issued for him because such an alert typically requires solid evidence that an abduction occurred.

Still, Benitez said her toddler couldn’t have gotten outside himself, noting he wasn’t tall enough to turn a doorknob.

“The only way that the baby would have gotten out the door is (if) the front door (was) open,” she said. “But we had the doors closed.”

The steps were covered with ice at the time leading Benitez to believe that there would be signs of Josh if he did get out.

Since the beginning of February 2011 dozens of searches, both community and private, have been conducted focusing on wooded/isolated areas to no avail.

“They had scent dogs out here, and (they) said there was no scent of him leaving the yard,” the toddler’s father, Josh Davis Sr., told CNN affiliate KENS back in 2011. “So I don’t see how he could have wandered off, or else they would have picked something up.”

Family still reach out to Joshua on Let’s FIND Joshua Davis, a Facebook page created by loved ones less than 24 hours after he went missing. Many strangers lurked the Facebook page shortly after it was created, criticizing the parents of the young boy. The negativity has since decreased thanks to the administrator of the page.
