Unsolved Disappearance of a Framingham College Student Still Cold Thirteen Years Later

angel_torresFull Name: Angel Antonio Torres
Nickname(s): Tony
Missing since: 1999
Missing From: Biddeford, Maine
Lived In: Denmark, ME
Age Then: 21
Age Now: 34
Race: Hispanic Sex: Male
Height: 5’8″ Weight: 150 pounds
Hair: Brown Eyes: Brown
Jewelry: A gold necklace with a cross pendant

Angel Torres, called “Tony” by many, was a Framingham College Student who lived in Denmark, ME when he went missing over twelve years ago after a night out with friends. According to those friends, they were in the Old Orchard Beach / down Biddeford / OOB area before dropping Tony off in Denmark at 2AM on May 21, 1999. They said he was looking for a ride to North Conway, NH.

Tony’s mother, Ramona Torres, last spoke to her son on the phone on May 19, 1999.

On May 24, 1999 Tony’s girlfriend called Ramona and told her Tony never showed up for his first day of work at a restaurant in Barre, ME. Ramona called police later that evening when she failed to get in touch with him.

Family as well as police believe Tony met with foul play however, they have no body or evidence to prove that theory.

Tony’s father, Narciso Torres said his son’s disappearance may be connected to individuals in the Saco, ME area. He said a group of unidentified people involved in criminal activity, who were not friends with his son, frequented the same parties and may no something.

“I think Tony knew them through other people. Tony may have been aware of crimes these people committed,” he said, possibly including the unsolved murder of a Maine teenager earlier that year.

“He was murdered and disposed of, but it’s not going to be solved unless someone comes forward,” he said.

A Maine State Police spokesman said he has no evidence the two cases are connected.

Ramona described Tony, who is her oldest son out of 3 boys, as a very social young man who enjoyed the company of woman and playing sports. She said he would call family regularly but the calls stopped suddenly. This is highly uncharacteristic of their beloved son and they immediately knew something was wrong. They have set up a scholarship in his name at Bonny Eagle High School where Tony attended and graduated from.

Tony was declared legally dead several years after his disappearance. His case remains unsolved.

A reward of $5,000 is being offered for anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) involved.

American College Student Vanished In Florence, Italy Almost One Decade Ago

matthew_mallaney_photo3 matthew_mullaney

Photos of Matthew A. Mullaney taken shortly before his 2003 disappearance

Matthew Mullaney was in his early twenties when he suddenly went missing nine years ago. He was born and raised in the United States but was attending college at the Angel Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. He had previously attended Fairfield University in Connecticut but had flown to Italy in January 2003 to study art. It was his first semester of college abroad and he was excited at the opportunity to explore another country/culture. Loved ones described him as an outgoing, social, friendly young man with no known enemies.

A few weeks after arriving in Italy, Matthew disappeared. On the night of January 31, 2003, Matthew told his roommate he was heading to the Lions Fountain Irish pub in Florence, a local spot frequented by American students. Witnesses reported seeing him in the early morning hours (approx 2:30AM) standing outside the Pub, getting ready to leave. That was the last time he was seen. His roommate reported him missing the following day on February 1, 2003, when he didn’t return to their living-quarters and couldn’t be reached.

“According to the staff, his behavior was normal and he was chatting with other students in the bar while there,” the young man’s family would later say in a written statement posted on a website they created (http://www.matthewmullaney.com/)

The FBI has since become involved with this case and on their website under his case it lists him as possibly being in Europe. Those sightings are not confirmed and family members and friends say he would have most definitely contacted them unless he was put into a situation where he couldn’t reach out to them. (Ex; Abducted.)

A website titled Have You Seen Matt? was created by loved ones who’ve been without answers for years. At the top of the site there’s a little intro which says;

We are (Matt Mullaney’s family), a family desperate to find our son/brother. His gentle spirit, quick wit and beautiful smile is missing from our lives. Matt is loved and missed by so many. We have been relentless in our search for him since February of 2003. Please take the time to look at his face ( and read our story) We know this is our only hope of receiving word about him. We have faith that someone out there has an answer for us. We hope and pray that you will come forward. Please help us find Matt…

Identity of Victim Found In A Chimney At A Dorchester Apartment Complex In 2005 Still A Mystery

Both reconstructions were created based on the description of the unidentified woman. The photos should not be the sole identifying factor.

  • The victim was discovered on October 14, 2005 in Dorchester, Suffolk County, Massachusetts located in New England, USA
  • Estimated Date of Death: She could have been deceased anywhere from 3 months to five years before discovery
  • Victim is believed to be a woman in her twenties or thirties with a small/medium build
  • She had long, dark brown hair, possibly even black, that went past her shoulders
  • She had plastic nails painted red. It’s unclear if they were drugstore nails or if she went to a nail salon
  • Medical examiners believe she bore at least one child prior to her death
  • An Anthropologist conducted an extensive examination and population profile of the deceased and the results denote strong Caucasian genetics. However there were several other genetic identifiers/traits pointing to population mixture, such as her mouth, and jawline. She may or may not have appeared to be Caucasian by her skin color, or other visual ethnic features. She may also have appeared to be Caucasian, and claimed or been of another ethnic background independently. Therefore, these facts should not eliminate the possibility of her being from either the Caucasian/Hispanic, Black or Asian population.

At first, chimney sweep Mike Scanlan thought the long spindly thing was a tree branch as he pulled it free of the debris behind a piece of particle board at the bottom of a disused Dorchester apartment complex incinerator.

His flashlight showed the object in its beam. Red plastic fingernails glinted.
Scanlan found a body buried in the incinerator cavity. There was not a single broken bone. There were no signs of injury.

Boston Police Sgt. Paul Donovan assumed control of the investigation at 17-19 Winter St., searching for the path by which the woman’s skeleton ended up at the complex.

Without available witnesses, and with only what the bones could tell his team – Donovan faced a difficult prospect.

“Usually the evidence will take you where it takes you,” Donovan said. “In this case, we’re lacking evidence.”

The dead woman was between 25 and 35 years old. She probably stood 5-foot-2-inches. She was deemed of white heritage, but also possessed Hispanic, Asian or black features.

One outstanding identifier: her partial dental plate, either made in the Caribbean, or elsewhere by a Haitian or Jamaican dentist.

A dental expert told Donovan the plate was probably black market or underground. Find the dentist, and Donovan could find her name, her family, where she lived. Unlicensed plate-makers, however, mean unlisted dentists.

Donovan looked for witnesses.

“I think she was there since 2002,” Donovan said. “Somebody who had some association with the building — a resident, an employee or someone familiar with a resident or employee — has some knowledge about whatever happened.”

Between January 2002 and January 2005, Donovan said, an access door to the building basement was typically left unlocked. Whoever buried the woman knew that, he said, and knew of the chimney as a hiding place.

Another way to break the case, Donovan surmised, was to find anyone who knew the woman before she disappeared. He needed a picture of her in life. He turned to Boston Police forensic artist Gregory Mahoney.

Mahoney was able to produce a computer reconstruction of the woman’s features.
Until someone recognizes her picture, Donovan is in charge of a file full of questions.

“In all my other cases, you try not to let your gut influence you too much,” he said. Now, for Donovan, gut feeling is critical to the completion of his investigation.

He’s watching Winter Street, waiting, and reaching out to Boston once again for anyone who saw anything around that basement.

David Reynolds Missing Since September 1, 2007 from New England Area

David J. Reynolds (photo taken in 2004)

Case Type: Endangered Runaway
DOB: Sep 7, 1988  Age Now: 24
Missing Date: Sep 1, 2004 Age Then: 16
Race: Caucasian Sex: Male
Height: 5’6” tall Weight: 140 pounds
Hair/Eye Color: Brown, Brown
City/County: Fitchburg in Worcester County – Massachusetts – United States
State/Country: Massachusetts (New England) United States

David Reynolds was last seen in Fitchburg, MA on September, 1, 2004 but was reported missing on May 12, 2005. At the time, David was 15 but turned 16-years-old one week after he was last seen. He is listed as an Endangered Runaway however, he hasn’t been seen in over eight years.

According to Police, David was believed to have been in the company of an adult man named Matthew Michaud who was 22-years-old at the time and will be turning 32 on October 30, 2013. The two talked about heading to the Boston area.

Very little information regarding Matthew Michaud is available, aside from his name and date of birth. It’s unclear if he’s been missing for the past eight years as well. When I searched his name I found listings on NCMEC, NamUs, etc regarding David’s disappearance. NCMEC lists that the two may still be in the local area, although that’s unlikely considering friends and family haven’t seen the teen in over eight years.

David has a tattoo of the letter ‘DR’ on his left arm and both his ears were pierced as a teen.

New Boston police join missing person network

The New Boston Police Department announced Tuesday they have become a participating member of the A Child is Missing Alert Program.

The program is similar to what the state has in the Amber Alerts, but the A Child is Missing Alert Program places actual calls to local citizens — more than 1,000 calls within 60 seconds. The alert message will include the age of the missing person, a description of the person, their clothing description, and the last known time and location of where the person was seen. The alert covers under persons under the age of 21 and disabled and elderly persons, often with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

“Once an officer takes a missing person report that falls under the guidelines of his program, we will place a immediate call to the A Child is Missing Alert Program operators who then will input the information into their automatic data system and a recorded message will be sent out to all local telephone numbers in the New Boston and Scioto County areas, informing our local citizens of the alert,” said New Boston Police Capt. Steve Goins.

The standard Alert Program utilizes computer mapping and enhanced satellite imagery to select an appropriate calling area, and will call between the hours of 7 a.m. and 10:30 p.m., unless significant extenuating circumstances dictate otherwise. Police departments also have access to 24-hour alert calls. Unlisted phone numbers and cell phone numbers can also be entered into the database at http://www.achildismissing.org to receive alert calls.

According to the program, a child is reported missing in the United States every 40 seconds.

Goins said getting missing persons information out to the general public in a quick and timely manner is a major factor in helping find the missing child or elderly person before they are hurt. The more people in our area that can assist the police in going out in their neighborhood and helping to look for the person, the more likely the outcome will be successful in finding the person.

“This program will most definitely benefit the department in how we search and look for missing persons. The program is also a free service to all law enforcement agencies,” Goins said.

An Amber Alert issued for a 4-month-old girl who was taken by her grandmother is canceled after they are both found, police say.

Jonathan said the baby appeared to be fine, but she was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Lavois was taken into police custody for questioning. Investigators said the case will be turned over to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be filed.
