Zyia Turner Was Found Deceased On June 29th, 2012 – Detroit, MI

June 29th, 2012
Detroit, MI
Under Investigation
Detroit police are investigating the mysterious death of Zyia (ZY’-uh) Turner who was found dead under a pile of clothes in her grandmother’s, hours after she was reported missing on June 29th.
The young girl’s Mother, Erica James (24) dropped her off, along with two other siblings at her paternal grandmother’s house the night before her medical appointment on Friday. The grandmother then left the three children in the care of an uncle while she ran errands.

At 4:30p.m. little Zyia was reported missing. Responding to a call, the Detroit Police Department first searched the grandmother’s home, and then the surrounding neighborhood. But their efforts were stalled while the Detroit Police Department tried to locate a cadaver dog to assist in the search, the cadaver dog eventually located the little girl in a closet under a pile of clothes, some type of metal box and other items.

Turner’s grandmother, Bridget Elam, says she thinks her granddaughter’s death was a terrible accident. She said that her son, who is being questioned by the police, did nothing wrong.

“My son who was watching them, he has helped raise all his nieces and nephews. He would never do anything to them,” said Elam.

Zyia’s funeral was held at  ‘Christ Resurrection Missionary Baptist Church’ in Detroit (MI.) Her Mother collapsed as pallbearers rolled a pink casket carrying her daughter’s body out of the church.

An autopsy is ongoing at the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office. WDIV says toxicology reports could take weeks to complete.

I’ve looked for an undate on any suspects and couldn’t find any articles so as far as i’m concerned, this case is still under investigation.
