Joshua and Sharyn Hakken will appear in court Thursday, April 18, 2013 for the first time to face charges including kidnapping, child neglect, false imprisonment, burglary and interference with custody.

Joshua Michael Hakken, 34, was listed as Endangered Missing on the Louisiana State Police Facebook page three days ago. After doing more research it appears as if he along with his wife, Sharyn Patricia Hakken, 34, kidnapped their two children, Chase Hakken, 2, and Cole Hakken, 4 from their grandmother who had custody of both boys in Tampa, FL.

The abduction occurred on the morning of April 4, 2013 and later that same day the Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued an AMBER Alert for both missing boys.

Both suspects are the biological parents of the two victims however, neither have any custodial rights.

The children may be traveling to or through Louisiana since their abductors have ties to the Slidell area which is the reason for the Louisiana alert. The suspects may be driving in a black 2006 GMC pickup bearing University of Florida license plate U95KT.

The suspects description:

  • Joshua Hakken stands 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighs 180 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.
  • Sharyn Hakken stands 5 feet, 4 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds and has blue-green eyes and short, curly brown hair.

The victims description:

  • Chase Hakken (bottom right) stands 3 feet tall and weighs 33 pounds. Both youths have brown hair and brown eyes.

Joshua Hakken Located In Cuba By CNN Reporter, Says He’s Father Wanted For Abducting 2 Sons (HuffingtonPost)

Children Kidnapped FloridaA CNN reporter claims to have located and talked to the man wanted for abducting two children and sailing them to Cuba.

Reporter Patrick Oppmann says he found suspect Joshua Hakken at a Havana marina and confirmed that he was the father of 4-year-old Cole and 2-year-old Chase Hakken, who arrived in Cuba on Monday.

Joshua Hakken wouldn’t answer any questions, and Cuban security reportedly told Oppmann to leave. But Oppmann also claims he saw a child on Hakken’s boat, as well as a woman matching the description of Hakken’s wife.

Authorities allege that Hakken entered his mother-in-law’s home in Tampa, Fla. on Wednesday, tied her up and left with Cole and Chase. From there the family took the treacherous journey from Florida to Cuba.

The boys had been living with Hakken’s mother-in-law since last year after Hakken lost custody of them due to drug possession charges. Police say he tried to abduct them before, by taking them from a foster home at gunpoint.

It’s yet unclear what, if anything, authorities can do to retrieve the family from Cuba. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and FBI are investigating.

01/13/13, HUFFINGTONPOST UPDATE — Richard Wayne Landers, Missing Boy Found As Adult, Says Grandparents ‘Were In The Right’

BROWERVILLE, Minn. — An Indiana mother whose former in-laws allegedly abducted her son nearly 20 years ago was not homeless at the time, the woman’s lawyer said, refuting claims that the grandparents needed to step in because she was unable to care for the boy.

Authorities searched for the then-5-year-old Richard Wayne Landers Jr. for years, but the case went cold. They eventually found him living with his paternal grandparents in the small central Minnesota town of Browerville. He had changed his name in 2006 to Michael Jeff Landers.

Lisa Harter and the boy’s father, Richard Wayne Landers Sr., did live in a car for three days at one point, but at the time of the boy’s disappearance in 1994, Harter had moved into an apartment, attorney Richard Muntz told The Associated Press late Friday.

Muntz said that when Harter and Landers Sr. divorced, Harter – who has mild developmental disabilities_ temporarily moved into a group home that wasn’t equipped for children. The grandparents obtained custody and filed for guardianship, he said. After Harter moved into an apartment and gained custody of her son on weekends, she filed a petition to expand her custody rights when she remarried.

“The judge gave her custody on a trial basis, and before she could get him, that’s when they left,” Muntz told the AP.

Todd County Sheriff Peter Mikkelson has said the investigation was ongoing and the case will be forwarded to federal authorities for possible charges, perhaps related to non-custodial kidnapping.

Michael Landers seems to have understood his circumstances and lived willingly with his grandparents.

Neither he nor his wife immediately responded to telephone or Facebook messages. But postings from each of their Facebook accounts appeared Friday night and Saturday on the Facebook page of KARE-TV in Minneapolis, suggesting that the grandparents did what was necessary.

A posting from Michael Landers said: “For you people who jump to conclusions you should find out the whole story I was where I needed to be. My `grandparents’ were in the the right I dont care what anyone else thinks.”

01/12/13, (DAILYMAIL) UPDATE – The happy family life of father-to-be abducted by his grandparents at age five and found almost 19 years later

  • Richard Landers Jr taken from Indiana home by his paternal grandparents in 1994 is pictured for the first time as an adult calling himself Michael
  • His wife is expecting a child and the couple live on the same plot of land as grandparents who are now facing charges

A man abducted by his grandparents at the age of five lives next door to them with his new wife and is preparing to be a father himself.
The impression of a close and happy family life was emerging in the case of Richard Landers Jr, now 24, who was kidnapped by his grandparents as a young child.
Police found the grandparents and Landers almost 19 years after he went missing in an operation, praised by his parents, Lisa Harter and Richard Landers Sr, who had almost given up hope of seeing him again.
But both Landers and his new wife have praised rather than criticized his parents. In a Facebook post Bobbie Landers said his grandparents kept her husband ‘safe’ as a child.

Baby: Michael Landers and his wife Bobbie, pictured left, are now expecting their own child and have posted ultrasound images and messages about how excited they are on Facebook, pictured right
‘His “grandparents” didn’t follow the law, but they did what was right. Sometimes, our US laws don’t help or protect the people they should. He was 5. He remembers his birth parents and what they were like,’ it said.
‘He had been living under his grandparents care since he was a 6 month old baby. He was where he wanted and needed to be to be safe and become the man he is today, my husband and best friend.’
Rather than the appearance of someone held against his will, Landers, who changed his name to Michael himself at age 18, has defended the grandparents who kidnapped and raised him.
He is now preparing to be a father himself with his wife Bobbie, who has two sons from a previous relationship.
They all live on one plot of land in Long Prairie, just outside Browerville, Minnesota and the young couple have been happily posting on Facebook about the upcoming birth of their child.

01/11/13 – WOLCOTTVILLE, INDIANA — Five year old Kidnapped in 1994 Is Found ALIVE living in Minnesota

mother_son

Left: Lisa Harter the mother of Richard Wayne Landers (pictured right) was “overjoyed” when she heard that authorities located her missing son, Michael Wayne Landers Jr.

Richard Wayne Landers Jr. was just 5 years old when he and his paternal grandparents, who were upset over custody arrangements, disappeared from Wolcottville, a town about 30 miles north of Fort Wayne. Nineteen years later, news that he has been found living under an assumed name in Minnesota left his mother overjoyed and “jumping up and down,” her husband said Thursday shortly after police announced the break in the case.

Indiana State Police said the now 24-year-old Landers was found in Long Prairie, Minn., thanks in part to his Social Security number. His grandparents were living under aliases in a nearby town and confirmed his identity, investigators said.

Police declined to say whether the grandparents will face charges, citing the ongoing investigation.

Landers’ mother, Lisa Harter, was “jumping up and down for joy” when investigators told her a few days ago that her son had been found, her husband Richard Harter told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.

He said his wife is “the happiest woman on earth.”

Harter said he and his wife were working with an attorney and hoped to reunite with his stepson soon. Police said Landers is married and expecting his first child.

Harter declined further comment and referred questions about the case to his attorney, who didn’t immediately return phone messages Thursday. Investigators declined to release the names under which Landers and his grandparents had been living.

Police said the boy’s paternal grandparents, Richard E. and Ruth A. Landers, abducted him in July 1994 because they were “upset over pending court proceedings” regarding his placement.

Police spokesman Sgt. Ron Galaviz said it appears the boy’s father was never in the picture. Lisa and Richard Harter had married a year earlier.

Authorities believe the grandparents took the boy from their home in Wolcottville and fled. They were charged at the time with misdemeanor interference with custody, which was bumped up to a felony in 1999. But the charge was dismissed in 2008 after the case went cold.

Investigators reopened the case in September when Richard Harter turned over the boy’s Social Security card to an Indiana State Police detective. That turned up a man with the same Social Security number and date of birth living in Long Prairie, Minn., about 100 miles northwest of Minneapolis. A driver’s license photo for the man appeared to resemble Landers, police said.

Indiana State Police then contacted Minnesota law enforcement agencies, which began investigating along with the FBI and the Social Security Administration.

The grandparents were found living in nearby Browerville, Minnesota
“By all accounts, it didn’t appear he suffered from any abuse, either physical or mental,” Galaviz said.

California Toddler Missing Since October Found Underdressed In Stroller With Woman Claiming To Be The Child’s Grandmother

Alouette Day-Moreno-Baltierra

Photo of Alouette Day-Moreno-Baltierra, a missing California toddler who was found alive with a woman claiming to be the child’s grandmother at the University of Kentucky in Lexington

LEXINGTON, KY — Two University of Kentucky police officers have found a toddler whose mother reported her missing to the Los Angeles Police Department a couple of months ago.

Campus police officers Jennifer Ockerman and Emily Smith spotted a woman pushing a stroller with a  little girl strapped into the seat on December 27, 2012.  They were concerned because the child was under-dressed in the cold weather. According to reports, she was not wearing shoes, socks or a jacket and without hesitation, the officer’s approached the two of them.

“It was obvious that the infant looked like she had been out in the weather for a while,” University of Kentucky Police Chief Joe Monroe said. “Her face was red, she was showing some signs of potential frostbite or hypothermia. So, we did take the initiative to go ahead and get the child some medical treatment.”

The woman, identified as 62-year-old Maria Baltierra-Dejesus, tried to shield the toddler’s face, claiming to be the her grandmother and refused to answer questions. She was immediately placed under arrest.

The child was identified as 17-month-old Alouette Day-Moreno-Baltierra and upon further investigation, authorities discovered that the Alouette is a missing child from California. Her mother had apparently reported her missing to the Los Angeles Police Department 10 weeks prior on October 15, 2012.

Alouette has been placed in the temporary custody of Kentucky Child Protective Services while Baltierra-Dejesus faces charges of child endangerment and custodial interference. She could face felony charges in California for taking the child.

Meanwhile, authorities are still trying to figure out why Baltierra-Dejesus, who had a New York address, was in Kentucky or whether she really is the child’s grandmother. They did find Alouette’s birth certificate in Baltierra-Dejesus’s possession along with the a passport with evidence showing she tried to leave the country twice.

Baltierra-Dejesus has been “very uncooperative,” said Monroe.

“We’re not sure exactly who she is at this point. We’re still trying to locate that,” Monroe said. “It’s very strange … Honestly, it was just kind a coincidence that she ended up here.”

“This is an example of where the responding officers followed a gut feeling that something just wasn’t right with the situation,” Monroe said Friday.

Alouette Day Moreno Baltierra is said to be doing good and will be reunited with her family soon.

Monty And Luke Turner Missing (UPDATED – FOUND SAFE!)

03/21/13 UPDATE – Luke Turner, now 4, has been located and was reunited with his mother, Brandy Turner, on Thursday. Times Call has an updated article regarding Luke reunited with his mother who he hasn’t seen in over eight months.

MISSING_CHILD

Photo of Luke back in the arms of his overjoyed mother, Brandy Turner

Below is a posted I created back in October regarding Luke’s disappearance.

Longmont, Colorado — Brandy Turner, the mother of Luke Turner (3) said she and her husband, Monty Turner, have been having marriage difficulties and he moved out of their Longmont residence in late June. A week or two after Monty moved out, Brandy filed for divorce on July 6, 2012 and had secured a temporary protective order on behalf of her son against Monty Turner, but the papers have not been served due to his (possibly willful) disappearance.

Monty Turner

Her son has been missing (abducted) for over three months, going on four months and she misses him dearly and wants him to come home. She last seen her child after dropping him off on a 4th of July visit to see his father who in return, selfishly took the child away from his mother.

Both Monty and Luke Turner are considered ‘missing persons’ because Longmont Police Department do not have evidence of a crime being committed. Sgt. Joel Post said Monty Turner has parental rights to the child. The case remains open.

Back in July, Brandy said she understood the legal nuance and she believes her husband does not want to be found, but she wants her child back. She said she believes they might be living in a camper Monty Turner was hauling with a truck. He planned to live in the camper after moving out of their Longmont home and had plans to park it in Lafayette. It’s possible he had gotten the camper for the very purpose of abducting Luke.

Luke’s loved ones are very worried that they will never see him again and media has paid little attention to this case because it’s a possible ”parental” abduction. Although still illegal it is not looked at as an actual abduction in the eyes of media.

Brandy said she last heard from her former husband on July 2, 2012 when he replied to a text she had sent him asking for their child. He was suppose to meet her at the Park-N-Ride at Niwot Road and U.S. Highway 287 on July 5 to drop off Luke, but failed to show up. She said her father-in-law, who lives in Divide, told her that Monty Turner took the boy camping, but she wasn’t given a location..

According to Brandy, Monty has always been a good father but that he is not an outdoor type of guy and she has been worried about their well-being. Luke was still being breast-feed prior to his disappearance and was not yet weaned off breast-milk when he was taken.

Monty Turner has family ties in Brighton, Denver, Divide and Teller County, and around Springfield, Mo.

A friend of Brandy Turner started a Facebook group this past Summer called ”To Find Luke” which has gotten over 9,500 ‘likes’ in the past several months.
