Exactly one week ago today marked the 12th anniversary since the disappearance of Shaina Kirkpatrick, then 1, and her newborn baby sister, Shausha.

Kimyala Henson, the mother of both girls, had planned to take them on vacation to Sacramento, California and they were being joined by Henson’s friend, Christina Mayer and a man whom Mayer introduced as her husband, Curtis. They left their Portland home on April 4, 2001 enroute to Sacramento and although they are believed to have made it to California it is unclear if they made it to Sacramento.

It has been confirmed that on April 5, 2001, less than 24 hours after leaving their Portland home Henson and her daughters had travelled to Redding, California and were seen at Shasta’s Lodge with both Mayer and Oehring. This was the last confirmed sighting of the two girls and the last time their mother would be seen alive.

Henson’s murdered remains were located on April 29, 2001 in a Nevada desert but Shaina and Shausha’s whereabouts are still unknown.

Steven Kirkpatrick, the boyfriend of Henson and the father of both Shaina and Shausha had told authorities that both he and Henson had never met Curtis prior to April 2001 and police would soon learn that ‘Curtis’ was in fact Frank Oehring, a fugitive from Missouri who had a warrant out for his arrest at the time due to attempting to murder his ex-wife. According to his former wife Henson had led a group of Satanists and Mayer was a member.

Just over two weeks after both girls disappeared, on April 20, 2001, both Mayer and Oehring were discovered in a vehicle at a rest stop in Collier County, FL. Mayer was dead upon discovery after being shot to death and Oehring was near death suffering from a gun shot wound to the head. He died just days later at the hospital.

It was determined that Oehring was responsible in what police have called a ‘murder/suicide’. He also left behind letters detailing their plan to steal Henson’s birth certificate. Mayer had assumed the murdered woman’s identity in Las Vegas, NV shortly after they met up with her in Oregon. Nothing in the letter indicated they were responsible for the murder of Henson nor the disappearance of her two daughters however, common sense and the circumstantial evidence points to them and police believe they had something to do with it.

They two girls are considered at risk.

The first one is a photo taken at the hospital after her January 2001 birth, and the second photo shows Shausha as a 2 month old, her age when she went missing. Madison Scott also known as “Maddy” by those closest to her, has been missing for two years when she was last seen on May 28, 2011 at approximately 3AM at a partying in Hogsback lake, which is a well-known recreational and camping area that also has a reputation as a party spot for young people. It’s approximately 25 kilometers from Vanderhoof in Northern British Columbia, Canada.

According to family and witnesses she had arrived at Hogsback on Friday and vanished a day later. Maddy was very close to her family so when she failed to contact them on Sunday they went ahead and filed a missing persons report with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), who immediately started searching. They found her tent and abandoned vehicle but no sign of Maddy.

Maddy’s case is widespread in British Columbia and her devastated family and loved ones have reached out to the public numerous times. They have created posters, bracelets and continue to host events in her name. They say the disappearance is very uncharacteristic and are desperate for answers.

Maddy was 20-years-old in 2011 and would be 22-years-old today.

Todd Scott, a young man who use to attend Nechako Valley Secondary School with Maddy, described her as outgoing, outdoorsy and “really, really nice.

An individual left an update on the Facebook page earlier this month stating that authorities for the RCMP who have been investigating this case have found no evidence to suggest that whomever is responsible for Maddy’s disappearance was staying at the campground the night of May 28, 2011.

Since Maddy’s disappearance almost two years ago, a reward of over $100,000 has been raised and is being offered to anyone with information leading to the recovery of Maddy Scott or the person(s) responsible for her disappearance.

Michael Dunahee was four when he vanished in Victoria, BC as he played in Blanshard Park Elementary School, also known as Blanshard Street Playground. He has never been found.

On March 24th, 1991 at approximately 12:30PM Michael’s mother, Crystal Dunahee pulled into the parking lot of Blanshard Park. She  was a part of a female football league and practice was being held at the field right beside the playground where Michael wanted to play. Michael’s father, Bruce Dunahee, reminded his son not to wander away from the playground or leave with any of the other children. He then took Michael’s younger sister, 16-month-old Caitlyn, and walked no more than 100 meters away to the side of the ball field to watch the game. About five minutes later Bruce looked over at the playground and it was empty. Michael was nowhere to be found.

Victoria Police were called and a search around the vicinity was immediately searched but he was never found.

Two other witnesses, in addition to Michael’s parents, told the police that they did see Michael playing in the park that day. His family was quickly ruled out as a possible suspect and it is believed that he was kidnapped.

Michael’s disappearance was National news for many year and was reported mainly in Canada and the US.

The case sparked one of the largest police investigations in Canadian history and to date, over 11,000 tips have been received and followed up on. However, despite the large number of tips, and dozen of searches, police do not have any solid leads in the case.

Michael’s mother Crystal has become an advocate for missing children’s issues in British Columbia, and currently serves as the president of Child Find British Columbia. The community of Esquimalt, part of the Greater Victoria metropolitan area, holds an annual charity event called the Michael Dunahee “Keep the Hope Alive” Fund Run to raise money for Child Find. 2013 will mark the 22nd annual run.

In 2002, Crystal lent her voice to support the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in calls to introduce an Amber Alert system in BC, stating that she believes her son would have been found had such a program existed in 1991. The Amber Alert system has since been implemented in most regions of Canada.

A reward of $100,000 is being offered for any information on the possible whereabouts of Michael Dunahee, or the arrested and conviction of those responsible for his disappearance.
